Hey there and welcome to my first blog post.

To start things off, I wanted to introduce myself. I'm Matt, the founder of Fieldcraft Games. To be honest, I'm a bit overwhelmed that we are here and that you are reading this. So thank you!

This is a brand new game studio and, at its heart, a passion project born from a lifelong obsession with history and strategy gaming. Right now by day, I still navigate the usual challenges of life: working a 15+ year career in marketing, balancing home life (including wife and kids), and trying desperately to find a few quiet hours in the evenings and weekends to pursue what I love (gaming amongst a few other hobbies).

So let's talk about the game, Sovereign Tides. It's built in Godot Engine and I'm pleased to say is quite far along in development now. We've secured publisher backing, and official announcement is imminent along with a steam page. It's a tight, pirate-themed roguelite where you sail around looting and surviving - with what I hope is a pretty cool story. Hopefully you'll be playing soon!

And now about my history in game dev. To date I've worked on four previous games - if you're wondering about games one, two, and three, well let's just say those were 'learning experiences' (or simply put very overly ambitious prototypes). Without these I wouldn't have the foundation for what I'm doing now. They were, to be honest, awful games, but I learned a lot!

At this point the keen eyed of you might have spotted I talked about games five, one, two and three - what about four? This is Field of Command which ultimately is my all time dream project since I was a kid (it was also game one but that was so so bad I ditched it). This is a game I've been working on and off across 3 game engines for over 5 years. All I'll say is it's a very ambitious operational-scale WWII RTS. Currently it's on the back-burner while I focus 100% on getting Sovereign Tides out the door (as my first release), but I can't wait to get back to it and share more in 2027!

This might sound crazy, two games at once? Yes it is - but it also helps. See game dev is tough and sometimes you just need a break. Having two projects grants me this. With Fieldcraft Games I sense I am at the start of a long but rewarding personal journey. There's so much I want to do, not just on these two games, but a long list of other cool ideas. Our ethos is going to be simple, "Inspire Curiosity, Challenge Perceptions" - and I really think with Sovereign Tides and the story I've created I can meet that. Let's see!
